Ombeni Kitoi Majenja

Ombeni Kitoi Majenja (Kitoi) is the son of a Meru tribal chief and one of Tanzania’s top safari guides. He is also the local representative of Afrikids. More precisely, Kitoi is the heart and soul of the Afrikids program.

We first met Kitoi —and fell in love with his smile, his charm and his personality— on safari long before Afrikids was born. When we started funding projects at the POSA preschool, not far from Kitoi’s home, he offered to help. Kitoi has been a huge part of Afrikids ever since.

Kitoi and his wonderful wife Elly are like parents to our students, many of whom are orphans. Kitoi manages our relationships with the schools and looks after any and all issues that arise. He purchases school uniforms for the students, looks after them when there are health problems, and is always there when they need a helping hand. He is our superhero. Asante sana, Kitoi.

It Takes a Village

Kitoi’s whole family is part of Afrikids. His wife Elly (Mama Gerard) is a second mother to all the Afrikids students. She constantly looks out for them, while also raising her own three children — Gerard, Samantha and Laurie — who are enrolled at school with the Afrikids students.

Whether looking after sick kids, preparing luncheons, hosting kids at her home, counseling students that are having problems at school, or providing some much-needed love and attention, Elly is an indispensable part of Afrikids.

We are indebted to Elly for her love and her dedication.
