Making a Difference

Afrikids supports our students, their families & their communities

Food Distributions

Most of our students come from Usa River just outside of Arusha. They grew up poor and many are orphans. But once they were enrolled in the Afrikids program, they became the lucky ones. There are many, many other children in Usa River and nearby villages, who too often go hungry. Whenever we can, we try to make a difference for the whole community.

When COVID shut down schools and Tanzania’s tourism industry in 2020, life for our students and their communities became even tougher. Afrikids did its part to provide some relief. Kitoi organized distributions of basic foodstuffs (corn, beans, rice, cooking oil, salt & soap) at the POSA preschool, at a community church, and at local government schools.

No Child Goes Hungry

During the COVID lockdown, Afrikids did food distributions at three government schools, which have far fewer resources than the private schools that our students attend. At the government primary school in Kitoi’s village of Imbaseni, the families of more than 100 children could not afford food for their daily lunch of ugali and beans. Afrikids agreed to do food distributions during the entire school year to ensure that no children would go hungry. Kitoi arranged for a food distribution when we visited the school in September 2021. More than 300 students greeted us with smiles and song. The school principal presented Afrikids with a certificate of appreciation. It was a moving experience.
